Hitting The Road: Fences

Something special happened when alt-pop band Fences brought in Grammy award-winning hip-hop artist Macklemore and producer Ryan Lewis to create the single “Arrows.”

The result is an emotion-packed track that opens and closes with the words “just escape,” setting the scene for the song’s exploration into finding yourself and reaching your goals, only to have them not quite look the same once achieved.

The single, with its heartfelt lyrics and catchy chorus, could be what takes Fences into the mainstream after having a strong underground following since the release of their debut EP in 2009.

This isn’t the first time Fences and Macklemore have collaborated. The pair met years ago while doing the music rounds in their native Seattle and have since co-written two songs.

Discussing Fences’ upcoming new album, Lesser Oceans, Macklemore told Billboard: “It’s one thing to do a feature for somebody who’s already famous, it’s another to, like, work with someone that you like, that you love, that you have an appreciation for and make art, and that’s what it’s all about.”

Fences’ Lesser Oceans is set for release in October with a tour to follow—check out the dates here.
