Christian Louboutin has made history by appointing plus-size French model Clementine Desseaux the new face of their rouge lipstick line. Famously a fabulous footwear line, Louboutin first introduced a nail polish line in 2014, and then added a lipstick collection this year. Twenty-seven year-old Desseaux is a healthy size 12–14, and this is the first time that the luxury brand has used a plus-size model in their campaigns.
While in 2015 (almost 2016), such news shouldn’t be so scarce and therefore such hot gossip—‘coz let’s face it, more women have bodies that better resemble Desseaux’s than Kendal Jenner’s—sadly, curvier models headlining major luxury brands is still relatively uncommon.
When Desseaux discussed her appointment with Daily Mail, she revealed, “The beauty norm is changing and differences that used to be weaknesses are now turning into strengths.” She added, “such a big French brand using a curvier girl for her face is a big step. Not for curvy women, not for freckles, just for women.” A major win for women, indeed.
