News on Thursday that the Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was shot down over Ukraine killing all 298 people on board shook the world to its core. Whatever your theory may be on who shot down the plane and why and with the finger pointing continuing (Putin blames Ukraine, the US blames the pro-Russian rebels and Putin, did the delegates travelling to the AIDS conference in Melbourne have anything to do with it), it was a profoundly sad event and our hearts go out to the victims and their families.
But what caught our eye here at SheRa Mag was the below Twitter post on Friday from the now former Russia Today correspondent Sara Firth:
Firth joined Russia Today (which is funded by the Kremlin) in 2009. Her decision to resign was based on the channel’s coverage of the disaster: the one-sided blame placed on the Ukrainian government. In the below video, Putin says that, “this tragedy would not have happened if there was peace in Ukraine…the state whose territory this happened on must stay responsible.” We salute you, Sara. It’s good to know that in these hard times, your ethics are firmly in place.
