Ya’ know that cute black-and-white cartoon beagle? Well he and his hip lil’ sister, Belle, are ready for their most prestigious performance yet. Premiering at the New Museum’s Sky Room on September 8, “Snoopy & Belle In Fashion” is a much anticipated calendar highlight of this year’s New York Fashion Week. Among the designers and labels that will be outfitting the cuddly duo are Dries Van Noten, Isabel Marant (a SheRa Mag fave!!), Calvin Klein Collection, Diane von Furstenberg, and Betsey Johnson.
But this is not their first venture into the fashion world. Snoopy, created by “Peanuts” Charles Schulz, and his sister Belle, made their haute couture debut in 1984 when an impressive list of designers adorned them in fine robes for an exhibition that travelled from the Louvre to the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, and throughout Europe and Asia. Gucci, Giorgio Armani, Gianni Versace, Jean Paul Gaultier, Karl Lagerfeld, and Thierry Mugler were among them.
“We are so excited to celebrate again 30 years later with Snoopy and Belle in fashion,” von Furstenberg, who also dressed the canine teddy siblings in ’84 told WWD. “We designed some pajamas for Snoopy and a wrap dress for Belle, both in our signature chain link.”
The exhibition will be a showcase of plush toys Snoopy and Belle wearing renowned designer clothing. After New York, the exhibition will travel to the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, Moscow, and Milan.
“Snoopy & Belle In Fashion” will be showing at New York City’s New Museum from September 8 to 10.
