The Swedish are Sure Good at Pop Music!

Swedish music has forever been recognized in pop music circles. It’s fair to say we’ve all heard of ABBA, Roxette, The Cardigans, and Ace of Base—and can most probably sing along to their chart-topping tracks. But now there is a new wave of Swedish acts to sit back and listen to. Check out some of our faves below:

Say Lou Lou:

Say Lou Lou are the dream-pop/electro-pop twin sisters Miranda and Elektra Kilbey-Jansson (23) who split their time between the respective home turfs of their muso parents: Mom’s native to Sweden and dad’s Australian.

Winner of the 2005 Swedish Idol, Agnes Carlsson (26) has continually evolved as a recording artist, progressively adding an element of electronic, dance, and house to her pop tracks. Interesting that she cites Stevie Wonder as her inspiration.

Robyn’s been around a while now, with the 35-year-old making it mainstream in 2007 with her UK #1 hit “With Every Heartbeat.” She’s remained on the airwaves ever since.

Tove Lo:

She’s only been around a short while, but we’re sure Tove Lo (27) is here to stay. Having tasted success with her 2013 hit “Habits,” she’s receiving rave reviews for her debut album Queen of The Clouds, which was released last month in the States.

Kate Boy:

Their pounding electro tunes are certainly enough to get you out of bed on a sluggish morning. This Stockholm-based threesome, who all contribute to the writing, production, and instrumentally, are currently winding up their tour of the States before hitting up the UK later this month.

Beatrice Eli:

Her music is unmistakably R&B and it’s a refreshing difference from the hoard of sync-pop Swedish bands doing the rounds. Growing up wanting to be a jazz singer, Beatrice Eli (27) oozes just the right amount of soul to become a stayer in the charts.
