J-Law and the Band of Badass Celebs Standing By Planned Parenthood

In typical badass fashion, actress Jennifer Lawrence upholds feminist ideals and defends Planned Parenthood in her interview with Glamour magazine. When asked about the shooting at the Planned Parenthood center in Colorado Springs, Lawrence heatedly stated, “It isn’t an attack on abortions; it’s an attack on women. Because Planned Parenthood is so much more [than abortion]. My mom was really religious with me when I was young. She’s not so much anymore. And I wouldn’t have been able to get birth control if it weren’t for Planned Parenthood. I wouldn’t have been able to get condoms and birth control and all these things I needed as a normal teenager who was growing up in a Jesus house.”

You go, Jen!

Lawrence isn’t the only one to speak out in support of Planned Parenthood of late. Since Congress voted to defund the organization, tons of celebrities have taken it upon themselves to stand up for women’s health. Here’s a quick look at who is all standing behind PP:

  • America Ferrera: “I think that women’s health is an issue that is close to me, because of my community. We’re only as strong as the ability we have to take care of the women who are giving birth and nurturing the next generation.”
  • Kristen Bell: “I stand with Planned Parenthood because I want my girls to have access to birth control behind my back one day.”
  • Elizabeth Banks: “Planned Parenthood was my healthcare provider when I didn’t have insurance after graduating from college. Yes, I got birth control, but it was for my massive migraine headaches and my heavy flow. Yeah, I’m on record saying I had a heavy flow.”

  • Maggie Gyllenhaal: “I’ve been a Planned Parenthood supporter my whole life—since my mom took me to a rally when I was in sixth grade. It’s chilling to think of this resource being taken away. One out of every five women has been to Planned Parenthood. Threatening their care gets politicians nowhere FAST with me. I proudly #StandWithPP.”
  • Gwyneth Paltrow and mother Blythe Danner: “We are first and foremost a mother and daughter, and we cannot stand idly by as birth control, family planning, and basic health care come under attack… Such a personal decision should be made by families, not by politicians. We need common-sense solutions to the health issues we face throughout our lives. Planned Parenthood provides those solutions, helping millions of women each day, improving our communities and our families.”

  • Mark Ruffalo: “There was no mistake in us making abortion legal and available on demand. That was what we call progress. Just like it was no mistake that we abolished institutional racism in this country around the same time. The easy thing to do is lay low, but then are we who we say we are? Do we actually stand for anything, if what we do stand for is under attack and we say nothing? There is nothing to be ashamed of here except to allow a radical and recessive group of people to bully and intimidate our mothers and sisters and daughters for exercising their right of choice.”
  • Whoopi Goldberg: “Most women do not have [abortions] with some sort of party going on. It is the hardest decision that a woman ever has to make . . . One of the reasons we’ve had to make this decision is because so many women were found bleeding, dead, with hangers in their bodies because they were doing it themselves. The idea of this was to make it safe and clean—that was the reason the law came into effect.”

Round of applause for the services Planned Parenthood provides and the rockstar people standing up in support of their work. [Clapping emojis.]
