“Nobody cares what happens to a freak.” American Horror Story: Freak Show.
Transgender actress Erika Ervin has joined FX’s cooky and crazy American Horror Story: Freak Show. Ervin, who previously starred in the Netflix series Hemlock Grove, will play “Amazon Eve,” a role that was originally written for a man.“I auditioned for the part as a guy, slicked back my hair, no make-up… flannel shirt, bound my breasts, dropped my voice and walked in, and nailed it,” Ervin revealed of the casting process.
Transgender kin and trail blazer Laverne Cox congratulated Ervin this morning on Twitter with the hashtag #girlslikeus.
Ervin will star alongside American Horror Story pop-culture gore-fest series regulars Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, and Emma Roberts. And in light of the difficulties she experienced with her family when she came out as transgender in 2004, Ervin says that she hopes her new role will allow her now estranged father to see her “make it in TV and film.”
American Horror Story: Freak Show will debut October 8 on FX.
